No reward for loyalty when it comes to car insurance, consumers advised

Thu, 10 Mar 2011

Consumers have been told to regularly shop around to see if they can get a better deal on their car insurance .

Confused.com has said that motorists could find there are considerable savings to be made with little effort required.

Gareth Kloet, head of car insurance at Confused.com, said: "Tempting as it may be to stick with your existing insurer, remember that there's no reward for loyalty when it comes to car insurance.

"Shopping around online to compare prices from a range of car insurance providers can help you to find a lower quote . Moving to a new provider is straightforward and can save you a considerable amount of money."

The comments follow the recent European Court of Justice ruling outlawing the use of gender to determine car insurance premiums .

While this is likely to result in an increase to the cost of car insurance for women, the comparison website advises there is still a lot people can do to bring the cost down.

For example, motorists should make sure that their vehicle is fitted with up-to-date security systems and that they give accurate details about what the car will be used for when filling out insurance applications.
