Uninsured drivers could have cars seized

Britons need to keep their car insurance policies up to date if they don't want to fall foul of a new law that could land them with a £100 fine, it has been noted.

Writing for the Dail Mail, Ray Massey explained that thousands of drivers risk having their cars clamped and seized in their driveways under new rules.

According to ministers, the changes are designed to tackle more than a million uninsured rogue drivers.

However, motoring groups fear many "forgetful law-abiding drivers could also be unfairly penalised while their car sits off the road on their driveway".

"It spells the end of the days when drivers might let their insurance lapse a few days before renewing it - relying on the fact it is off the road and therefore safe from prosecution," Mr Massey explained.

From now on, though, the government insists that there will be no hiding place for uninsured drivers .
