Expert dismisses car insurance myths

Thu, 27 Jan 2011

There are a number of myths that car insurance customers are often lulled into believing regarding their policies, it has been noted.

Writing for lovemoney.com, Robert Powell explained that one of the most common misconceptions is that getting a speeding ticket means that your insurance rates will definitely rise.

"Providers will usually take a number of factors into consideration - such as the speed you were travelling and whether it's your first offence," he explained.

Furthermore, he explained that the majority of car insurance policies will not cover you for overseas journeys.

Mr Powell also dismissed suggestions that the colour of your car can affect your insurance rate.

"In fact, insurance providers will base your rate on the age, make, model, price and engine size of the car as well as your driving record and address," he noted.

Car insurance claims are liable to rise at this time of the year due to there being fewer hours of daylight.
