Car insurance customers urged to consider paying monthly instalments

Car insurance customers have been urged to consider paying their costs in monthly instalments.

Moneysupermarket.com warned that failing to identify the best car insurance deals could prove rather costly in the long-term.

"Running a car doesn't come cheap, and many of us will be looking for ways to trim our outgoings and make our finances more manageable," commented Steve Sweeney, head of car insurance at the price comparison site.

Paying for your car cover on a monthly basis is a good way of keeping initial outlay for car insurance down, he added.

While this may be more convenient compared with forking out for the whole year's premium, "it's crucial to make sure you're aware of the additional costs involved".

Meanwhile, the Institute of Advanced Motorist recently advised motor insurance customers to make safe driving one of their resolutions for 2011.

The institute observed that while building up skills is a way to improve overall safety and confidence, it would also result in lower car insurance premiums .
