Sheila's Wheels, a car insurance company specialising in providing cover to women, says it is not worried by an impending legal decision that could drastically alter the market.
March 1st will see the European Court of Justice (ECJ) deliver its verdict on a case that could make it illegal for insurance companies to use gender as a criteria for calculating premiums .
This would have the effect of increasing the cost of car insurance for women, who currently enjoy much better rates than men.
However, Sheila's Wheels has said that, whatever the outcome, it will not alter its market position.
Indeed, a spokesman for e Sure, which owns the company, said it saw the ECJ ruling as a "massive opportunity".
Speaking to Marketing Week, he said that, because of the huge ratio of women to men holding Sheila's Wheels policies, the cost of claims will be kept low and hence so will the cost of premiums.
Because of this, even more women will be attracted to the brand, the spokesman claimed.
It comes after moneysupermarket.com this week urged consumers whose car insurance is up for renewal in the next few months to secure a new deal before the ruling comes into effect.
