A leading car insurance firm has issued some safety and money savings advice for new university students .
Insurance giant Aviva has, for instance, cautioned students not to overload their cars when leaving the family home to make the initial journey to their new halls of residence.
Nigel Bartram, motoring strategist at Aviva, warned: "Loading up a car is not like a game of tetris - all heavy objects should be secured, use your seat belts if they are not already being used by passengers, and there should always be a clear sight for mirrors and the drivers space should not in anyway be impaired."
Furthermore, the provider warned that leaving all of your worldly possessions packed into your car represents an obvious risk of theft.
It is therefore advisable not to leave your vehicle unattended, Aviva said.
Meanwhile, research conducted by GoCompare has claimed that the majority of motorists would rather change the way they drive than compromise on their cover.
