Car insurance customers have been urged to consider swapping their vehicle for one that is cheaper to insure.
An article appearing on myfinances.co.uk observes that as well as the price and prestige, there are other indicators which will bring insurance premiums down.
Eco-friendly cars, for instance, tend to attract lower premiums as well as cheaper road tax, the site explains.
"Research reliability leagues and MOT failure rates," the article also advises.
"The most reliable motors tend to be made by Japanese manufacturers such as Honda, Subaru and Toyota (despite their recent problems)."
Added to this, the site observed that insurers will favour cars with a good reputation for lasting a long time while needing minimal repairs.
Earlier this week, swiftcover.com, the online car insurer, claimed that motorists are trying to pass off old damage and normal wear and tear to their vehicles as part of genuine car insurance claims .
Britons have resorted to doing this in order to get their insurers to pay for all their repairs, the provider said.
