Motorists have been advised that there are a number of changes they could make to reduce their car insurance premiums .

An article appearing in the Daily Telegraph has urged car owners to fit their vehicle with a security device.

"Many insurers offer discounts if you take the trouble to fit an extra security feature to your car," the article observed.

"Even fitting a simple crook lock can prevent your car from being stolen and save you the inconvenience of having to manage without your vehicle."

Furthermore, motorists are encouraged to protect their no claims discount.

Providing a claim has not been made over the last four years, a driver could have earned a 65 per cent discount off their car insurance premium .

Meanwhile, moneysupermarket.com claimed recently that young male motorists pay on average 79 per cent more than young women for their car insurance .

However, the price comparison website observed that young males who boast a few years experience on the road will benefit from a significant drop in their car insurance premiums .
