Young men are paying roughly twice the premiums for better car insurance as young women, an expert has observed.
Ian Crowder, spokesman for the AA, attributed this trend to a combination of factors, however the overarching reason lies in the fact that providers are finding car insurance to be unprofitable.
According to Mr Crowder, car insurance providers are making heavy losses at the moment, adding that there is one principle reason for this.
"The major one is personal injury claims," he said. "The number of personal injury claim lawyers has doubled over the last two years."
Last week, the AA revealed that car insurance customers have on average witnessed an increase of 11.5 per cent on their insurance premiums over the past quarter.
Over the 12 months ending September 30th, the average cost of an annual comprehensive car insurance policy had risen by 39.3 per cent to £792.
Young drivers are being hit with the biggest premium increases, the AA said.
