Index reveals rising cost of car insurance premiums

Fri, 15 Oct 2010

Over the past quarter, car insurance customers have on average witnessed an increase of 11.5 per cent on their insurance premiums, the AA has claimed.

Furthermore, over the 12 months ending September 30th, the average cost of an annual comprehensive car insurance policy had risen by 39.3 per cent to £792.

Young drivers are being hit with the biggest premium increases, the AA found.

"Recent road casualty statistics from the Department for Transport show that a third of men who are killed or seriously injured on Britain's roads are under 25, while the number of young passengers who die in car crashes exceeded the number young drivers killed for the first time in six years," commented Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance .

He added that these statistics underline why car insurance premiums for young drivers are soaring.

In contrast, the latest edition of the Confused.com/EMB Car Insurance Price Index claims that car insurance premiums are showing signs of slowing.

The price comparison website explained that it seems the rises are finally starting to "run out of steam".
