Buying the cheapest car insurance could turn out to be a costly mistake, it has been argued.
NFU Mutual, the UK's leading rural insurer, observed that motor insurance policies differ hugely and, fairly often, it is not until an insured motorist has "cause to claim on their policy they discover what is (and what isn't) covered".
The insurer is therefore urging Britons to check what's included in motor policies as standard before agreeing to any deal.
"It is important drivers realise that insurance providers who offer cheap policies do not always provide all the cover you need," commented John Kenny, chief claims manager at NFU Mutual.
Meanwhile, Sheilas Wheels, the leading car insurance provider, recently announced plans to extend its brand into a driving academy that will launch in spring 2011.
The firm explained that it will use the knowledge of women's claims and driving characteristics to tailor lessons that will provide learners with more knowledge to stay safe.
