Car insurance customers given winter warning

Tue, 26 Oct 2010

Car insurance customers have been advised that there are a number of steps they can take to maintain the value of their cover.

Price comparison website Confused.com has suggested implementing simple changes such as topping up the antifreeze and checking tyres .

Will Thomas, head of motor at the company, commented: " Motorists need to plan their journeys in advance. Leaving home ten minutes earlier, in order to de-ice the windscreen, will save that potentially dangerous mad rush to work."

Being involved in an accident could, of course, reduce the value of a car insurance premium.

Britons are therefore advised to do their all to avoid a collision or breakdown as winter descends.

Meanwhile, John Fitzsimons noted recently that additional driving qualifications can help newly-qualified motorists to reduce car insurance costs .

Writing for lovemoney.com, he observed that fancy car modifications will also add to your premiums.

"Indeed in some cases, tinkering with your car may actually void the policy altogether," he warned.
