The easiest way save to money on your car insurance premiums is to not accept your renewal quote and shop around, it has been claimed.
An article appearing in City AM said that increasing your excess can also bring the cost of car insurance cover down.
"Only ask for a courtesy car or legal expenses if you really need them," the publication advised.
"The less your car insurer has to provide in the event of an accident, the lower your costs."
Furthermore, the story explained that adding an experienced driver to your policy as a named driver can result in cheaper quotes .
"So if there's any chance a parent will need to borrow the car then add them on," it said.
This echoes claims made recently by Andrew Guppy, writing for the Daily Telegraph, that it is more important than ever to make sure you're not paying over the odds for car insurance.
Mr Guppy observed that car insurance has risen by a record 40 per cent this year.
He therefore advised Britons to shop around to unearth the best deals.
