Despite the soaring costs of car insurance premiums, young Britons have been reassured that they are still able to secure an attractive deal.
Writing for This is Money, Stephen Womack observed that while passing your test makes you a legal driver, it does not make you a safe or experienced one.
Indeed, half of all collisions among those aged under 21 are at night compared with only 30 per cent of crashes for those aged 30 or over, he said.
To qualify for better car insurance premiums, Mr Womack recommended taking extra training.
"Pass Plus is a course of lessons taken after your test and is backed by the Driving Standards Agency," he noted.
"About a dozen motor insurers offer discounts for those who complete the training, which includes sessions on driving in poor weather and gaining experience on motorways."
Research by AA Insurance has shown that male drivers aged between 17 and 22 pay an average of £2,500 for car insurance.
