GPs make more car insurance claims than any other profession, according to new research.
A poll by confused.com found that 33 per cent of GPs registered with the price comparison website claimed in the past year, the Press Association has reported.
They were, however, closely followed by psychologists (30 per cent), district nurses (30 per cent), hospital doctors (29 per cent) and dentists (27 per cent).
Interestingly, 27 per cent of opticians claimed for an incident in the last 12 months.
"The findings really challenge perceptions of motorist profiles," Will Thomas, head of motor insurance at confused.com, told the news provider.
"Typically, people would expect a painter, decorator or the White Van Man to be more likely to have an accident than a doctor or accountant but the survey shows quite the opposite."
Meanwhile, accountants Deloitte claimed earlier this week that after two years of steep losses, Britain's car insurance sector will return to profitability in 2011.
Deloitte observed that profitability will be achieved provided it can push through more price rises without losing customers.
