Tiredness warning for car insurance customers

Mon, 10 May 2010

Drivers have been warned that they risk having to make a claim on their car insurance through tiredness as a result of staying up too late and not getting enough sleep.

According to a survey carried out by Webuyanycar.com, 80 per cent of motorists got to bed after 10pm while 86 per cent sleep for less than eight hours a night.

Furthermore, over two-thirds said they suffer from insomnia and almost three-quarters admitted they had driven in the rush hour despite having a disturbed sleep.

Jeremy Herbert, the operations head of Webuyanycar.com, is particularly concerned by the results of the survey.

"People are living fast-paced lives but worryingly our survey shows they don't seem to be able to slow down behind the wheel.

"This is even more dangerous when combined with a lack of sleep."

M&S Car Insurance recently warned that there was a risk of drivers being tired after the clocks went forward.
