Female car insurance customers have been urged to shop around after research showed an increase in premiums for their cover.
An AA report recently revealed that there was a seven per cent rise in the cost of insurance premiums for female drivers aged between 17 and 22 in the first quarter of 2010.
Advice from comparison website Tiger.co.uk includes putting parents as named drivers on a policy, while calculating annual mileages could also help to keep costs down.
Graeme Kalbraier, managing director of Tiger.co.uk, said that there are large variances in prices from different insurance companies, although he insisted good deals can still be found.
He added: " Female car insurance has always been a competitive market, with Diva, Sheila's Wheels and Ladybird all offering good discounts to attract drivers.
"Female drivers have fewer accidents than their male counterparts, traditionally making them a much less expensive group to insure."
The recent AA British Insurance Premium Index also found that, over the past 12 months, the average premium for comprehensive cover went up by 13.4 per cent.
