A car insurance company has welcomed the introduction of electronic car insurance certificates, claiming they will save time and costs.
The Department of Transport has approved the process, which will see customers sent a printable certificate when they purchase their policy.
According to swiftcover.com, this will save motorists the hassle of having to wait for documents to come by post, something which can sometimes delay tasks such as taxing vehicles .
Tina Shortle, marketing director for the firm, said: "We are delighted to see that e-certificates for motor insurance have finally been approved by the Department of Transport as this has been something that swiftcover.com has been pushing for since we began in business.
"Our service is based on making car insurance quicker, simpler and more efficient to organise, which not only saves drivers time, by getting rid of things like call-centres, it also helps save costs."
The Association of British Insurers has previously said that electronic certificates would bring efficiency into the system.
