Research has shown how young drivers could improve their chances of avoiding car insurance claims by practicing with their parents.
According to Aviva, more than a quarter of young drivers who did not practice driving with their parents had to make a car insurance claim after an accident within the first year of passing their test.
The research also show that those who had additional practice with their parents were 17 per cent more likely to pass first time while half the motorists who only took lessons from an instructor took more than four tests before they passed.
Nigel Bartram, Aviva motoring expert said: "The more experience young drivers can accrue behind the wheel the better drivers they will be, especially if they are practising driving at night and driving in different weather conditions."
The Motor Insurers Bureau recently warned that many young people were risking having their car insurance invalidated because they were named drivers on the parents' policies, despite being the main user of a vehicle .
A study by the organisation showed that ten per cent of motorists believed that was a lawful way of obtaining cheap car insurance .
