New statistics show just how much of an impact potholes could be having on car insurance policies .
According to the AA, the number of claims resulting from pothole damage has increased by over 600 per cent in the last three years.
The firm says that, in February alone, there were 1,900 claims, costing insurance companies £2.85m.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "The figures underline the struggle that local authorities are facing in keeping the pothole outbreaks under control.
"While some councils are keeping on top of the epidemic, following one of the most severe winters in living memory, others are struggling to meet the cost of the seemingly unending workload."
Comparison website uSwitch.com recently reported that the average claim for pothole damage was £240, although some bills could reach £2,710.
The company reminded drivers to report the potholes to their local authority, adding that they could also claim the cost of repairs from them, thus avoiding the loss of a no claims bonus .
