Female drivers lack of sense of direction could affect car insurance

Thu, 11 Mar 2010

New research has shown that many female drivers lack a sense of direction, something that could impact their car insurance .

According to Boxby, a courier service company, a survey of 1,087 women found that 47 per cent thought their sense of direction was not very good, with one in four saying they get lost on a regular basis, many of them in their own cities.

Meanwhile, two-thirds said that that they rely on a satellite navigation system for long distance journeys.

Sandra Patterson, managing director of Boxby, said: "Although a lot of women said they had a bad sense of direction, this really isn't too much of an issue when you consider the growing use of satnav systems .

"I think a lot of it comes down to pride and women being more ready to admit that they aren’t the best at finding their way around, but the fact that quite a few said they got lost on a regular basis in their own city was a little surprising."

A motor insurance expert recently warned drivers that they should always take their satnav, or any other valuable items, with them when they leave their car in order to avoid theft .
