North Yorkshire County Council has launched a new scheme that could help reduce the number of car insurance claims from young drivers .
The local authority has developed Enhanced Pass Plus with local road safety organisations to help new motorists avoid crashes by taking extra lessons.
North Yorkshire county councillor John Fort, executive member for road safety said that the aim of the scheme, which could also give drivers a discount on their car insurance, was to get people driving safely and more responsibly.
He added: "The numbers of deaths and serious injuries on our roads has gone down a lot; we need to make sure that continues.
"Enhanced Pass Plus will help equip newly qualified drivers with the information and experience they need to stay safe on the roads."
A survey by Co-Operative Car Insurance last year found that 30 per cent of people under the age of 25 have performed dangerous and illegal manoeuvres whilst driving.
