Car insurance customers will welcome an announcement in the budget to deal with potholes and damaged roads.
Recent reports and surveys have shown the devastating impact potholes have had on vehicles, resulting in many more car insurance claims .
Chancellor Alistair Darling therefore revealed that there will be extra investment into road infrastructure to deal with the effect of wear and tear over recent months.
He said: "Roads are, of course, an essential part of our transport network. The bad weather of the last few months has taken a damaging toll on their condition.
"So I am providing £100 million to pay for vital repairs to local roads throughout the country, and £285 million to pay for improvements in the motorway network, including by expanding capacity by allowing hard shoulder running."
According to the AA, claims for pothole damage have gone up by 600 per cent in the last three years and it is estimated that, in February alone, it cost insurance companies £2.85 million to deal with some of these.
