Car insurance policy holders have been reminded of the effect of clocks going forward this weekend.
According to M&S Car Insurance, for 42 per cent of British people losing just an hour of sleep affects their concentration levels the next day, with almost half also taking two or more days to recover from the introduction of British Summer Time .
The organisation has therefore urged motorists to prepare by going to sleep a little earlier, changing the clocks early on the night before and doing some exercise on Sunday (March 28th) morning to feel a little fresher.
David Wells, M&S head of insurance, said: "Our concern is the impact of losing an hour's sleep on concentration, particularly on drivers.
"Being tired and rushing around because you might be late for work or a social event is a dangerous combination when behind the wheel of a car. It could lead to drivers not paying attention to the road, or to other road users."
Another factor that can affect loss of concentration throughout the year is using a mobile phone while driving.
Direct Line recently reported that reaction times are nearly 50 per cent slower when talking on a handheld mobile phone than when driving under normal driving conditions.
