Motorists have been given some advice by a consumer group on keeping their car insurance costs down.
According to Which? Insurance companies will look at the driver's postcode, and even though it may be impractical to move, measures such as keeping the car in a garage or fitting an immobiliser could keep premiums low.
Age can also affect insurance costs so for those aged under 25 a Pass Plus course is recommended while older drivers should consider a specialist insurer like Saga .
Other factors that one has less control over include jobs and gender, although, again, there are specialist insurers that cater to just women.
Above all else, Which? says that insurance costs can be kept down by "driving safely, ensuring you are not convicted of offences such as speeding and protecting your no-claims bonus ".
Parents were recently warned that fronting, a tactic often used to try and lower insurance costs for young drivers, was a risky strategy and that it could lead to a policy being invalidated.
