Police in Dorset have urged car insurance customers not to drink and drive over the summer .
The country's force will be putting on extra roadside checks and traffic patrols to catch motorists exceeding the alcohol limit, while also testing for drugs .
Chief inspector Bob Nichols, head of Dorset Police's traffic unit, explained why it is so important for his team to be proactive this summer.
He said: "With the World Cup starting during the campaign a larger number of people are anticipated to be at pubs watching the games.
"The advice is, as always, to not get behind the wheel after drinking. Ensure you have made provisions for a safe journey home. Any amount of alcohol drunk before driving can endanger your safety as well as other road user's lives."
A recent study by AA Insurance found that almost two per cent of motoring convictions are for drink driving, while around 85 per cent are for speeding.
