New research has established the regions in the UK where the most motorists are driving without car insurance .
As part of its Stay Insured campaign, the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) has found that Barkerend in Bradford is the area with the most uninsured drivers .
A number of areas in the West Midlands also appear in the top five, although it has been noted that there has been a 20 per cent reduction in the number of uninsured vehicles in the past four years.
Ashton West, chief executive at MIB: "The level of seizures and criminal convictions demonstrates that uninsured drivers are consistently being caught and removed from the road. But more drivers need to buy a policy to cover them on the road.
"We understand that times are tough and finances may be squeezed but motor insurance is a legal requirement. Even though the number of new claims reported to MIB is reducing, the costs to the industry and ultimately the honest motorist are just too high."
Car insurance premiums for people driving within the law could be affected by car users who decide to go uninsured.
