A new report has demonstrated the devastating effect potholes are having on car insurance customers around the country.
Research by Autoglass has found that 45 per cent of drivers have had an accident or near miss because of a pothole, while the average motorist has to deal with 13 potholes on their daily routes.
It also estimated that these potholes are resulting in £3.7 billion worth of repairs to damaged vehicles .
Nigel Doggett, managing director at Autoglass, said that drivers have had "enough" of potholes and demanded action.
"It's incredible and very alarming that so many drivers have had an accident, or experienced vehicle damage as a result of the treacherous driving conditions," he added.
"In addition to the safety implications, potholes are costing motorists and insurance companies millions of pounds, which is why we're urging councils to listen to our campaign."
One of the reasons why potholes appear is as a result of cold weather, when water seeps into cracks in the road and expands.
