Car insurance customers have been reminded to make sure they have adequate breakdown cover for their holiday journeys.
Roadside assistance firm GEM has noted that, with the recent disruptions caused by strikes and volcanic ash, many people have opted for car holidays on the continent.
However, with motorists driving on unfamiliar roads, the organisation has warned that breakdown cover is essential.
GEM chief executive David Williams said: "It is extremely important that drivers realise the necessity to ensure their car has been completely checked before setting off on a long journey.
"There is nothing more frustrating than breaking down with a car full of luggage and the whole family onboard excited to get to their destination."
The organisation also reminded drivers of some of the essential items they need to take with them in their cars, including warning triangles, reflective jackets and vehicle registration documents.
Many car insurance policies include breakdown cover, although it is important to check whether this includes trips on the continent.
