Working Britons warned about driving without necessary car insurance

Tue, 19 Jan 2010

An insurance comparison website has claimed employers are failing to warn workers of the need for business use cover on their car insurance .

According to research by Gocompare, 72 per cent of UK workers used their own car for business purposes in the last year and 35 per cent of UK workers do not have business use cover on their car insurance.

In addition, just 38 per cent of workers said their employer has explained the need for business use cover on their car insurance when using their own car for work.

Lee Griffin, the business development director at Gocompare, said that employers have a "legal responsibility" to ensure that cars used for working purposes are safe to drive.

He continued: "Extending your motor insurance cover to include business use can be relatively inexpensive and some insurers do not even charge an additional fee for this cover."

Though some workers are unaware of the need for using car cover, Gocompare recently claimed that 22.7 per cent of Britons switched their car insurance provider in the last year.
