Motorists are being encouraged to consider the different insurance policies available to them in the wake of heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures.
Price comparison website confused.com recommends motorists purchase breakdown cover as a precaution against worsening road conditions, with the advice coming soon after the Met Office issued widespread weather warnings throughout the country.
Will Thomas, head of confused.com's motor division, urged consumers not to think of the purchase of insurance as a luxury, reminding them that it is not just a long wait in the cold that they face if they simply "hope for the best".
"You also stand to pay charges that run into hundreds of pounds for roadside repair and recovery," he explained.
The AA reported that they experienced their busiest ever day on Monday (January 4th), attending 25,000 breakdowns as drivers struggled in the cold weather.
