Motorists are being given advice by M&S Car Insurance for when they get back to driving their cars after the recent freezing conditions.
Many drivers have left their cars abandoned or unused because of snow and ice, and precautions need to be taken before they hit the road again.
While police advice to avoid unnecessary journeys should still be followed, David Wells, M&S head of insurance, has some key points to remember.
He said: "Before getting back into your vehicle clear all snow and ice, making sure that you have clear visibility. Also ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy, including checking the tyre conditions and that all lights are working."
Other tips include checking anti-freeze levels, keeping an emergency kit and checking that windscreen wipers are functioning properly.
The AA recently reported that it has had to help more than 330,000 drivers since the snow started in mid-December, with battery faults being the main cause of breakdowns .
AA Insurance also saw snow and ice related claims increase by 40 per cent in the same period.
