A price comparison website is urging motorists to be extra cautious during the winter months as a new report has revealed that two accidents could double the cost of car insurance.
According to confused.com, some drivers have incurred an increase of more than 200 per cent after being involved in only two crashes.
Will Thomas, confused.com's head of motor insurance, revealed that the average car insurance premium last year was £400.
He continued: "In a year when we expect premiums to rise anyway, ensuring you shop around and don't just accept your renewal, will absolutely help."
The untypically cold weather this winter has led to a rise in insurance claims, with some insurers receiving twice the number of accident claims compared with 2009.
Meanwhile, recent research by gocompare.com showed that 22.7 per cent of motorists switched their car insurance provider in the last 12 months.
However, the study also found that 21 million drivers could potentially be missing out on cheaper car insurance .
