Parents have been urged not to front for their children when it comes to car insurance .
The practice of fronting means having child as a named driver despite them actually being the car's main driver.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, has reminded parents that the practice can be considered as fraud and that, despite the tempting savings that can be made, fronting should be avoided.
He said: "Parents may be tempted to do this to slash the cost of their son or daughter's car insurance but, if detected, insurers could treat the policy as invalid. Honesty is the best policy when it comes to car insurance."
According to Swiftcover, 36,000 parents may be misleading their insurer even further by naming their child as a spouse a partner.
The company also estimates that 150,000 are misleading their insurer in some way by fronting, meaning many young driverscould face being uninsured if they are rumpled by their provider.
