RIAS is offering a new product to its over-50s car insurance market that could give customers extra peace of mind.
MOT Protection will now be available to these customers, covering them for up to £650 worth of costs incurred should their car fail its MOT.
The product works out at £3.33 a month, and Janet Connor, managing director at RIAS, believes it offers value for money and will help calm the fears that often surround MOTs.
She added: "Our new cover means that our motor insurance customers shouldn't have to worry about the financial burden of making their car safe and roadworthy.
"They can now simply add this additional cover option to their motor insurance policy in one easy step."
Government figures show that 36.3 per cent of cars failed their MOT in 2008/09, and the Post Office recently warned that drivers need to find out how it affects their insurance policy, especially if they have to take the vehicle off-road.
