Some car insurance customers hoping to save money on new vehicles can do so for another month after the government announced that it is to extend the scrappage scheme until the end of March.
Though the scheme is to be lengthened, the government has insisted that there is to be no more additional funding.
The initiative, which has helped to stimulate the motor industry and removed high-emission vehicles from the road, has been widely praised for what it has helped to achieve.
The business secretary Lord Mandelson explained that the scheme has proved to be especially successful in protecting jobs for motor industry workers through the economic downturn.
He added: "If you're considering buying a new car, you should place your order as soon as possible to avoid disappointment, because the budget is strictly limited."
Meanwhile, similar initiatives have also been successfully implemented in Canada, Germany and Austria .
