Car Insurance provider issues Britons with MOT advice

Fri, 12 Feb 2010

Post Office Car Insurance has reminded motorists to contact their insurance provider if their vehicle fails an MOT to ensure they are fully covered until it is considered roadworthy.

This warning comes in light of government research which revealed that 36.3 per cent of cars failed their MOT tests between 2008 and 2009.

In addition to this, the Post Office has warned policyholders to seek advice from their car insurance provider if their vehicle fails, as many insurance policies only provide cover for theft, attempted theft or fire damage if the car is declared long-term off-road.

Richard Pennant-Jones, the Post Office's head of car insurance, claimed that car insurance is "one area where cutting corners could cost you more than you bargained for".

He added: "Failing to maintain your car could even result in it being deemed unroadworthy and, therefore, invalidate your car insurance."

Meanwhile, the AA recently revealed that the number of car insurance claims for damage caused by potholes has rapidly risen in 2010.
