The number of pothole claims on car insurance policies is up, according to the AA .
It believes that the problem is a third worse than it was last year, with tyres, wheels, steering and suspension suffering the most.
While most pothole incidents do not result in claims, there are still occasions where it is the only option.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "It would take a quarry-like pothole to cause the sort of damage that would justify an insurance claim, but there are certainly some 'A-list' holes out there.
"But more commonly, our customers have either tried to avoid a pothole and hit something else, such as a kerb, or hitting a hole has caused them to momentarily lose control and hit another vehicle or object."
In January, uSwitch reported that potholes were resulting in £2.8 billion in repairs every year.
It added that the cold snap had seen road damage increase by a third compared to usual winter months.
