Car insurance customers warned to monitor their oil levels

Mon, 08 Feb 2010

A new survey has revealed that the majority of car insurance customers never check the oil level of their vehicle .

Swinton, the high street car insurance retailer, found that 70 per cent of Britons neglect to monitor their oil.

Further to this, the survey discovered that women were the worst offenders, with 85 per cent conceding to not checking their oil compared to 52 per cent of men.

Steve Chelton, Swinton's insurer development manager, explained that motorists need to be able to carry about "simple procedures" to ensure that their vehicles are kept in good condition.

He said: "The older a car gets the faster it consumes oil, so we'd advise people to check their oil level at least every two weeks and carry a spare canister in the car at all times."

Meanwhile, M&S Car Insurance recently promised a free car wash every month for an entire year to customers who take out their policy through moneysupermarket.com.
