Learners who have failed their first driving test will be reassured by new statistics that could help lower their car insurance cost.
Continental Tyres has conducted a survey of 6,200 young drivers that found those who passed their driving test second time around had fewer points.
It also revealed that they were stopped less by the police and that they were less inclined towards road rage. However, after two failed tests, it was shown that drivers become worse, picking up bad habits including running red lights.
Guy Frobisher, director of safety at Continental Tyres, said: "Second time passers appear to fare better, especially when it comes to driving safely and considerately.
"Perhaps this is down to concentrating more and taking into account different road conditions and other drivers."
A recent report by moneyspuermarket.com found that, in most areas around the country, young men were the worst offenders when it came to being uninsured on the road.
In Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire, 28 per cent of men in their early 20s were driving uninsured.
