Car insurance customers have been warned of the potential pitfalls drink driving over the Christmas period could have on their policies.
Neil Greig, director of policy and research at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, warned that driving over the alcohol limit is a very serious offence.
Indeed, he explained to car insurance customers that it can make them "virtually uninsurable for up to seven years".
"Some insurance companies just won't touch people with a drink driving offence," he commented.
"When you do get your car back you will find it very difficult to get insurance and you won't get a cheap deal anywhere."
The Department for Transport is set to launch this year's drink driving campaign, which will see designated drivers being offered free soft drinks in more than 8,000 places across the UK this year.
THINK! has also teamed up with Coca-Cola's Designated Driver campaign to offer drivers soft drinks in participating venues across Britain as part of the Driver Friendly campaign.
