Car insurance claims are expected to double this month compared to an average December as bad weather grips the country.
AA Insurance said yesterday (Monday, December 20th) that it had seen a 100 per cent increase in claims related to snow and ice.
Over the weekend, more than 70 per cent of all claims were related to accidents caused by the adverse weather.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "Call volumes are at unprecedented levels and we are prioritising the most urgent cases. The morning commute saw many people struggling to work with some icy roads resembling fairground dodgems as cars collide with each other and with kerbs, lamp posts and bollards."
He added: "Thankfully, the number of personal injury cases is about ten per cent lower than on normal December days despite the high volume of claims, thanks to the low speed nature of most accidents."
Snow is expected to continue to fall across the UK this week and commuters and travellers have been warned to expect some disruption to their holidays.
