Britons urged to get car insurance cover for winter months

Mon, 06 Dec 2010

Car insurance customers who brave the freezing conditions without adequate cover in place risk a long wait at the roadside if anything goes wrong, it has been claimed.

Writing for the Daily Mirror, Melanie Wright observed that last week's sub-zero temperatures acted as a reminder as to just how important breakdown cover is.

Irrespective of how reliable your car is, Ms Wright urged motorists to always be prepared for a breakdown .

To emphasise this point, Ms Wright cites recent research conducted by Co-operative Insurance which found that just under half of us who drive have experienced a breakdown, while an unlucky one in 100 have broken down over ten times.

"When looking for quotes for cover don't just stick with the big names as there are now plenty of providers offering comprehensive policies for as little as £30 a year," she noted.

Ms Wright added: "Keep an eye out for special deals at this time of year. Co-operative Insurance is cutting a third of the price of its comprehensive cover for customers who take out a policy before the end of January."
