Many car insurance polices do not include ULR, says Defaqto

Many car insurance policies in the UK do not include any cover for uninsured loss recovery (ULR), new research has revealed.

According to a study conducted by Defaqto, the independent financial research company, more than one-quarter (28 per cent) of car insurance policies do not offer any ULR protection.

Furthermore, the research found that just over half (51 per cent) of annual insurance policies only do so at an additional cost to the customer.

Defaqto did, however, say that the remaining 21 per cent of car insurance products do afford their holders ULR cover as standard.

Mike Powell, insight analyst for general insurance at Defaqto, commented: "It's not unusual to be offered a number of optional extras when you buy your car insurance .

"What is important is that consumers check that they have their required features within their policy as we all have different needs."

In related news, AXA revealed recently that 800 lives are lost on Britain's roads through accidents caused by road rage or disrespectful driving.

Further to this, the car insurance provider said that £35 of each of our annual motor insurance premiums pays for these accidents .
