A leading car insurance provider has warned motorists that driving when tired can be fatal.
Direct Line said that drivers who are fatigued risk causing a deadly accident .
Andy Goldby, director of motor pricing and underwriting at the insurance firm, explained that this is because tired motorists have slower reaction times and their awareness of the road is significantly reduced.
Mr Goldby therefore implored road users to take a break if they start to feel sleepy, as arriving at their destination slightly late is preferable to not arriving at all.
"It's not worth the risk to themselves, their passengers or other road users," he remarked.
Earlier this week, Sainsbury's Car Insurance claimed that nearly two-thirds of British drivers (64 per cent) admit to having engaged in some form of potentially dangerous activity whilst driving in July.
The provider added that eating and drinking whilst driving is the most prevalent dangerous habit, with 38 per cent of motorists questioned admitting to having done this in the previous month.
