The majority of drivers who shop around for car insurance save money, it has been argued.
According to Which?, some 60 per cent of motorists who shopped around after receiving a renewal quote got a lower offer elsewhere.
Further to this, the financial advice website discovered that most drivers are paying more than they need to for already expensive car insurance .
"Three-fifths of motorists who shop around get a lower renewal price," the site claimed.
"The third who don't shop around at all could be losing out on hundreds of pounds in some cases."
Meanwhile, Defaqto, the independent financial research company, recently urged car insurance providers to clarify the direct debit fees they charge customers.
Many Britons choose to pay for their car insurance by monthly installments, particularly if the premium is high, Defaqto said.
