Car insurance customers must be more vigilant with the security of their vehicle, new research has suggested.
According to a study conducted by M&S Car Insurance, more than half of motorists in the UK have fallen victim to car crime, which may have been down to a lack of security.
The company cautioned that car insurance policies may be invalidated if they fail to use anti-theft measures.
Andrew Ferguson, M&S head of general insurance, commented: "During the summer months, many drivers unwind windows and leave roofs open - it's important to make sure the vehicle is secure when unattended."
Earlier this week, leading global insurer RSA launched a new online-only car insurance product, which gives customers the flexibility and control to tailor a policy to suit their exact needs.
Through 'RSA echoice', consumers can build on a basic level of cover by picking any combination of a range of ten additional cover options.
