Car insurance experts have urged lawyers to do more to curb unnecessary personal injury claims, which are pushing up car insurance premiums .
According to research by LV=, the cost of personal injury claims now adds £100 onto the average car insurance premium .
Meanwhile, 57 per cent of solicitors say they have seen a rise in exaggerated injury claims in the last 10 years, with 40 per cent also reporting a surge in fake injury claims since the recession began.
Martin Milliner, technical claims director at LV=, said: "Drivers who invent or exaggerate their injuries to make a claim not only break the law but also push up the cost of car insurance premiums for all motorists.
"We encourage all solicitors to continue to apply rigorous questioning to anyone claiming a personal injury, and to investigate very carefully any concerns they have about the reliability of a claimant's story."
It was recently reported that the average car insurance cost has gone up by 37 per cent since September 2007, partly as a result of an increase in personal injury claims.
