British drivers have been advised to plan their May Bank Holiday trips in advance to ensure journeys are as hassle-free as possible.
Last year, 11 million people took to the roads in the UK, leading to heavy traffic and congestion on a number of routes.
With this year expected to be similar, M&S Car Insurance has offered a number of tips to help make the experience more bearable.
As congestion leads to longer journey times, drivers should make sure they have checked their oil, coolant and tyre pressures are at correct levels prior to departure to help reduce the chance of a breakdown .
Adequate car insurance and breakdown cover should also be secured in case disaster strikes.
"We are urging motorists to take adequate precautions before setting off and while driving to avoid unnecessary stress, breakdowns and causing further delays on the roads," confirmed M&S head of general insurance Andrew Ferguson.
Research conducted by Admiral recently showed the average UK motorist drives 7,775 miles every year.
