Car insurance advice for driving after arguments

Mon, 19 Apr 2010

Car insurance customers have been given advice on cooling down after an argument with their partners before driving, in order to prevent accidents.

According to More Th>n, 2.5 million accidents and incidents have been the result of 'romantic road rage', with 31 per cent of motorists admitting they have got behind the wheel of a vehicle immediately after having an argument with their partner.

The company's research also showed that 36 per cent of people say they pay less attention to the road when driving after a row while 19 per cent said their command of the vehicle was erratic.

More Th>N has therefore devised a system to suggest a cooling-off period of between five minutes and an hour after an argument, depending on how heated it gets.

"If you've had a blazing row with a partner you will be wound up, distressed, and un-focused, and that will affect your driving ability," said spokesperson Mark Christer.

"We hope that our alternative unit system will make Brits think twice before speeding off in the car straight after a row."

Researchers in the US have previously shown that drivers with stickers on their cars are more likely to resort to road rage than most motorists.
